We picked up issue #2 of The Twelve, a great series that we highly recommend. The Twelve follows Golden Age heroes that wake up in the present day after being frozen for 60 years.
We really enjoyed the hero-packed issue #12 of JSA. Lots of heroes, lots of stories and they're recruiting even more in this issue.
Fables issue #69 is more of a great series that we really like. The artwork is top-notch and the story is huge.
Then in our speed round we cover Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters #1, The Trials of Shazam #11, Jack of Fables #19, Proof #4, and Action Comics #861.

Today's show starts off with some very big news: James Robinson is going to be writing Superman starting with issue #676 in May. James Robinson is best know for writing Starman. Also, Geoff Johns has re-signed with DC Comics to write exclusively for DC.Then, we've got three Newsarama Sneak Reviews starting with Fantastic Four #554 with a new writer and artist team: Mark Millar and Brian Hitch. We've got a couple of gripes, but overall we're very happy with the new direction and we'll tell you why.Then, we've got Booster Gold #0, written by Geoff Johns. We counted four Blue Beetles in this book. Time travel paradoxes aside, this is a book we highly recommend you pick up.And we're also highly recommending the highly anticipated X-Force #1. Lots of action and a must read for X-Men: Messiah Complex fans.In the speed round, after years of waiting we've finally got Rob Schrab's Scud #21, Star Wars Rebellion #11 (because you guys asked for more Star Wars), Doktor Sleepless #5, Space Doubles #1 (a three-fer!) and Teen Titans: Year One #2.In our viewer mail, Brad asks how important are fights and physical action in comic books. We've got Newsarama Reviews of three more books in this episode. We're definitely recommending the very dark Simon Dark #5. There's lots of great qualities about this issue plus the art is really enjoyable.
As for Nova Annual #1, we felt this was a well written annual that continues to move the story along in the Annihilation Conquest series.
We also got our hands on the cute and cuddly Tiny Titans #1. We absolutely loved the cartoony style and it's definitely an enjoyable issue for all ages.
Then in the Speed Round we review Ubu Bubu #1, Maintenance #8, Abe Sapien #1, Nightwing #141, and All New Atom #20.

For this episode, we got our hands on Invincible #48, where we found a nice assortment of regulars from the Image universe. Atom Eve is back and although this book is short on story, we still recommending picking it up.
Justice League of America #18 is a follow-up on the story line where the villains were sent to prison on another planet. It's a decent issue but we think it serves as filler and hope there's better stuff coming.
Then in Superman Confidential #12, Jimmy Olsen's still causing trouble. The book feels a lot like the Superman animated series and the art by Phil Hester is really top-notch.
In the speed round, we picked five books that we highly recommend. Check out Seventy Six #2, X-Factor #28, Wolverine #62, The Walking Dead #46 and The Punisher: Force of Nature.
Then in the Mailbag we talk about our favorite "one-shot" comics. Kevin from Olympia, WA has a soft spot for Evan Dorkin's Fight Man.

We got another Newsarama Review from the floating head of Pete on the wrap up of the final Umbrella Academy. We thought this issue was well done and lived up to the hype. We give it 5 floating heads out of 5!
As for Countdown to Final Crisis, Pete's floating head wasn't too happy with the issue, but we heard from artist Jimmy Palmiotti that the series is going to end with a bang.
Wrapping up with New Avengers #38, it's all about the Skrull invasion. We thought it was a great read and a lot of fun so be sure to pick it up.
In the Speed Round, we review Captain Marvel #3, Spooks #1, Green Arrow and Black Canary #5, Dead of Night #1, and Amazing Spider-Man #550.

Breaking News: Lead singer of My Chemical Romance, Gerard Way is calling Umbrella Academy his debut comic. BUT, we dug up a comic he published way back when he was in high school called "On Raven's Wings".Mark Millar and John Romita take on real life people getting into superhero suits in Kick-Ass #1. This "real life" superhero even has a MySpace profile. Is this a gimmick or is it a book worth picking up? Find out in this review.Is Thor #6 the Thor we've been waiting for? It's still early on in this series, but we think this book has finally arrived with this issue.Then Captain America #35, continues the great story arc with Bucky as the new Captain America. We've got a Newsarama Review of She-Hulk #26. We like what Peter David is doing with this series. In this issue She-Hulk's has some identity issues and is questioning whether or not she's a hero. Spoiler Alert: She-Hulk gets her pants blasted off!
We also review Marvel Zombies 2 #5. We're not completely thrilled with the final issue of this series. It felt like the characters were a bit removed from their environment.
Comic Book Comics deals with the history of comic books in the form of a comic. It truly represents what a comic is all about and we think it's really well done and a great read for beginners.
In the Speed Round we review Shadow Pact #22, The Flash #237, Immortal Iron Fist:One-Shot, Zorro #1, and The Spirit #14.
Stack viewer Jose asks about how comic books have changed throughout the years and what we miss about old comics. Then, Pete and Alex face off in an arm wrestling match. Seriously.

More Newsarama Sneak Reviews! We got an early look at Logan #1 written by Brian K. Vaughan. Lots of great stuff for Wolverine fans. Alex calls it a classic Wolverine story and very BKV. Definitely one to put on your pull list.
Raven #1 is another number one of a limited series we checked out this week. It goes deep into DC continuity, but it's a book that two thirds of us feel good about recommending.
On stands this week, Cable #1 is a Messiah Complex spin-off. Cable is traveling somewhere in time with an X-Baby trying to keep it safe from harm. It's a good book and well worth picking up.
Then, in the speed round we've got Jack of Fables #20 (fun and truly funny), RASL #1 (from Jeff Smith the creator of Bone), All Star Batman & Robin #9 (a book Pete calls creepy), X-Men Legacy #208 (highly recommended and is a great jumping on point), and Crime Bible #5 (a fantastic book, well worth getting the TPB).

We really enjoyed this book and not just because there's ponies in it!Then we take a look at The Goblin Chronicles #1. We're split on this one. It's being billed as Shrek meets the Lord of the Rings. The art is great, but there are some issues here.We picked up Wolverine First Class #1, another all-ages title this week. Pete didn't like the berzerker rage that Wolverine goes into. And Alex, the Kitty Pryde fan of the group, has a lot to be happy about here. We really enjoyed this title and hope you pick it up, too.And finally, we discuss: Are all-ages comics necessary? We enjoyed Powers Annual #1. It does a good job as any annual should of telling a good story that stands alone, while being part of the current story line.Then we check out Locke & Key #3 which we all really liked. It's really well written and horrifying without being overly blood-spattered. Plus, the artwork is top notch. Iron Man: Legacy of Doom #1 gets a 2 out of 3. Justin's just not on board because of "schlockiness". And that's exactly why Alex liked it - it's old school and feels like an old comic. BE CAREFUL, Secret Invasion Spoilers ahead! The Mighty Avengers #12 begins the Secret Invasion event. Here we're getting into some Skrull stuff, but our only complaint is that this is hardly a Mighty Avengers book. Wonderlost is a recounting of the writer's many loves told over several short stories. Pete's a big fan of Ultimate Human #4 but Justin's not having it and says there's a Duck Tales reference in there somewhere. Hmmmm.Then, we've made it all the way to Countdown #1 and we've gotta say, we haven't really been bowled over by this series. It just didn't pan out and we didn't need 52 issues of this.The Secret Invasion is on in New Avengers #40 with Bendis at the reins. We really enjoyed this issue, but we think putting this great story under the "New Avengers" title does this story a disservice.In this speed round we check out Mice Templar #4, Everybody's Dead #2, Hulk Vs. Guardians of the Galaxy is a spin off of the Nova Galaxy and Annihilation Conquest. Pete's got issues with this one and Justin agrees. Alex says it's a great first issue. Then we all agree on Tor #1. It's fun and Joe Kubert's art is top notch. GeneXt #1 shows the grandchildren of the original X-Men and depicts them as actual kids. It's got a nice old school X-Men feel and brings in lots of old X-Men characters. Then in the Speed Round we've got Gemini #1, House of Mystery #1, Batman: Death Mask #2, Scud #24 and Pretty Baby Machine #1.
